Start with the places close to home

Finding a community in Calgary can begin with one practical question: what would you like to do with people nearby? A regular activity, a volunteer shift or a neighbourhood gathering gives you something to share before you know anyone’s name.

Our first neighbourhood guides cover Mahogany and the communities served by the Shawnee Evergreen Community Association. Each guide points to the organisations behind local activities and explains where to check dates, access and registration. These are editorial guides; inclusion does not mean HeyNeibo has launched in that area.

Three ways to get involved

For an activity near home, start with your community association and look for a session you could attend more than once. For a particular interest, search across Calgary and decide how far you can realistically travel. For everyday local updates, follow the original organisation responsible for the announcement.

Community boundaries and membership arrangements differ. Use the Federation of Calgary Communities directory to find an association, then confirm your address and eligibility with that association before paying for membership or booking an activity.

Turn a search into a small plan

Choose one activity, check the organiser’s current details and make room for it in your week. If you are going alone, ask whether first-time attendees need to register and where the group meets. A specific plan is easier to follow through on than a long list of possibilities.

HeyNeibo is being built for neighbourhood conversations, local plans and useful exchanges. Today you can read these guides and join the free Calgary launch waitlist. The community app is not open to residents yet, and there is no confirmed launch date.
