Explore City of Calgary volunteer programmes

The City’s volunteering page links to programmes including parks, recreation and social programmes, community social work and the Off-Leash Ambassador programme. Open the programme that interests you to check its current application process and eligibility.

Treat the programme directory as a starting point. An organisation running a programme does not mean every role is recruiting today. Ask about the next intake and whether you can begin with a short commitment.

Look for a role in your own neighbourhood

Your community association can be a useful contact when you want to help close to home. Find the organisation serving your area and check its volunteer page or contact details. SECA, for example, publishes a dedicated volunteering page for its communities.

Tell the organiser when you are available and the kind of work you can offer. Ask whether a one-off shift, a recurring task or a project role is needed. This guide points to recruiting sources; it does not confirm that an individual vacancy remains open.

Questions to ask before you commit

Confirm the time, location, duties, age requirements, training and any screening process with the organisation. Ask who will introduce you to the work and what to do if you need to miss a shift. Requirements differ by role, so use the actual listing rather than a general description of volunteering.

Apply through the organiser’s own process. HeyNeibo does not collect volunteer applications or place volunteers. Our Calgary waitlist is separate and is only for a future HeyNeibo launch invitation.
