Which neighbourhoods does SECA serve?
The Shawnee Evergreen Community Association (SECA) identifies Shawnee Slopes, Shawnee Park and Evergreen Estates as the communities it serves. It is a volunteer-run association in southwest Calgary.
Evergreen Estates is a specific area; this guide does not treat all of Evergreen as SECA territory. If you are unsure which association serves your home, check the boundary information and ask the association before choosing a membership.
Find a local activity that suits you
SECA’s seniors page describes weekly activities for adults aged 55 and over, usually on Thursdays. Consult that page for the current schedule, location and any registration requirements; individual sessions can differ.
A recurring activity gives you a practical reason to return. Before your first visit, ask whether newcomers can drop in, what the activity involves and whether there are any costs. Choose a session that interests you rather than feeling you need to attend everything.
Help with something you can sustain
SECA publishes volunteer opportunities on its website. Ask about current vacancies and the expected commitment, since listed roles and one-day activities can change.
A useful first message says what you can offer: a few hours at an event, help with a particular skill or interest in a regular role. Ask who will introduce you to the work and whether any preparation is needed. A manageable commitment makes it easier to keep showing up.
Follow community plans as they develop
SECA’s community-life page describes a proposed community garden. Treat it as a project in planning, not an operating garden with plots available to book. Check the association’s current update before making plans to participate.
HeyNeibo links to these resources as an independent guide. We are not SECA and cannot issue association memberships or register you for its programmes. Our own Calgary resident community is still in development, with a launch waitlist available today.
